The IC class livestock wagons were one of the first class of livestock wagons used by the Queensland Railways. The IC wagons had a carrying capacity of 6 head of cattle and were fitted with a corrugated iron roof. The IC wagons varied in weight from 4.6 to 6.1 tonnes tare and had a gross mass of 16 tonnes. Originally there were only 3 classes of livestock wagons for carrying cattle, classes I (4 wheel), J (6 wheel) and K 8 wheel/bogie). The 6 wheel version was fitted with either a Bissell or Adams Radial Truck. This system was similar to the later Grovers bogies except for the addition of a third “sliding” centre axle. These wagons after 1911 were reclassified as ICG and fitted with conventional Grovers bogies. In December 1982 there were still 127 IC wagons in service. |
