The Convention is held every two years in Brisbane and brings together modellers and rail fans with an interest in Queensland’s railways and tramlines. Attendees come from every state in Australia and occasionally from overseas. Essentially a one-day (Saturday) convention, events include clinics and other presentations, modelling demonstrations, layouts, trade stands and a group dinner. A visit to a local rail heritage attraction and/or local model railways typically occurs on the Sunday. Bookings are essential.

Subject: Queensland Model Rail Show – Update on events and activities at The Workshops Rail Museum

Dear modellers, exhibitors and traders,

I would like to give you an update on the events and activities programme at the Museum. As a number of you would be aware the Museum is refreshing the approach to public programming following our realignment, and we are looking to engage and work with a variety of different community groups and organisations in future years.

One of the changes will be the way we engage with the model railway community. We have decided not to run the Queensland Model Railway Show event in 2016, and instead focus on the Queensland Museum collection at our Museum here in Ipswich. Many of you would be aware the Queensland Museum recently acquired a significant model rail collection and our team are working on documenting these items and beginning to prepare them for display. We are also looking for volunteers to assist with the Museum’s model layout operations and maintenance.

The team and I would like to sincerely thank you for your support of the Queensland Model Railway Show over the years, and we look forward to continuing to work together in future. We’ll be in touch when some of these exciting projects progress, such as the model rail collection.

All the best for the upcoming Brisbane Model Train Show if you are attending. We’ll be there as always with our stand and this year we’re also returning with the Brisbane Model Train Show Steam Train.

Kindest regards

Richelle McClymont
